Well everybody hated yesterday’s post, and half of everybody hated today’s, and some are mad that I have been getting mad in comments, so…. I’ve downloaded Elden Ring and will be streaming it on my dormant Twitch channel tonight for a few hours, starting at around 6:00PM EST. You may heckle me while I play. Whether I continue to stream it depends on whether I’m just awful or so awful that I can make no progress.
If you're not a Twitch partner, your VODs only stay up for around two weeks (60 days as a partner). IIRC there is some way to pay to keep them up, either Turbo or connecting your account to an Amazon Prime account.
awww, i hated neither post! i'm sure lots of people are like me just reading silently agreeing in parts disagreeing in others mulling it all over in our minds, enjoying it all. thanks for writing so prolifically and giving me so much to think about!
We don’t hate it, we just think you’re wrong. All of us are wrong about a lot of things. The only shame in that is not being willing to admit it when presented with reasonable evidence and argument.
That would be a good discussion topic - What are the things you are most likely wrong about?
I don't hate except those that do true evil, but I am easily irritated. Your articles sometimes irritate me... and thus I know they are valuable to read and consider.
Video games irritate me too. I don't know how anyone justifies the time suck. But I am a builder... I like to create, make, invent, grow and produce things... tangible things. For example, just got into sourdough bread making again. My starter is awesome this time.
Hang in there. I don’t agree with everything you say, but I’m not supposed to. I enjoy your takes, even when I disagree, because they make me think. The tendency to attack people that don’t see things the same way is monstrous. Thanks for writing.
I'm not sure I'll be home from work in time to watch (👏Central 👏Time 👏Matters 👏Too) but I'm pretty stoked about this.
I made a joke about this in Monday's thread but I genuinely have no interest in watching people who are good at games play them. Unlike sports where I want to see the highest level of competition because of its breathtaking power, these are video games. I could never do what a Messi or Embiid or McDavid do if I had a million years to try. I could be really good at video games if I didn't have a career. But I do, so I'd rather watch someone experience them the way I do: constant failure and frustration.
Ha! I've been playing Elden Ring for the past couple of days. This is going to be like watching a very fast-moving train wreck. :) It's going to be great.
I've never watched a streaming Twitch whatever thing. How does it work? Does the audience talk while it's going on?
I actually resonated with both posts. I am a Canadian and perhaps that influences my take on things. I am also NOT a Marxist, so it may seem odd that I am a paying subscriber here. I subscribe because you are a good thinker and writer, but more than that, you are refreshingly, glaringly honest. We need to be able to say what’s true even when those truths may not sit easily with our ideology. Reading you helps me see beyond my own non-Marxist, ideological lens. You also call out liberal bullshit when it is deserved. Maybe that’s why I like your work - a good BS detector. Thank you.
I'm more likely to watch Twitch and other livestreams during, um, business hours. But I happen to have some time tonight, so I'll try to put it on while I do housework.
I'm excited to be conversant in a new video game for once, as someone who never plays them. My nerd friends will be impressed when I can drop some knowledge, like I already know there isn't a quest log but you can use paper instead.
I enjoyed both posts, BTW. The discussion yesterday was intense but thought-provoking, which is always good.
i mean, i disagree with some of your underlying philosophies but i found your argument compelling and cogent as always. i prefer to read people i don't always agree with. in fact, i pay you for this.

Non-partners' past streams are only held for 14 days. https://help.twitch.tv/s/article/video-on-demand?language=en_US
I look forward to watching when I get off of work today!
twitch deletes VODs after a point to relieve the servers, tho i believe you can tweak your settings to alter this

Well now you know how writers end up on Twitch.
I hated today's but loved yesterday's!

I am psyched for this. I have been on the fence about this game since I am not patient, but the reviews have been so glowing.
yesterday's post was fantastic.
