So if A doesn't always produce B where does that leave you?

The alternative view is that nerdiness just falls on the spectrum of normal human behavior, no medical diagnosis or condition required.

The main issue is today kids like Elon would be taught strategies to make their ASD less burdensome in school. They wonтАЩt get you those services without a diagnosis.

In some schools, maybe. I suspect that's highly correlated with living in an affluent majority white suburb as compared to an Indian reservation, for example.

And if the real issue is whether or not the school is rich enough to support school counselors why is a medical diagnosis required? Are the school psychiatrists otherwise incapable of dispensing professional help? "Sorry about your crippling social anxiety but since your brain scan shows no abnormal mirror neuron function you can't be diagnosed with Asperger's so you are out of luck."

EAPs are a whole big thing thatтАЩs too much to get into in a comment. But yea you need a diagnosis to get services.

And a diagnosis of "neurotic" or "depressed" doesn't cover it? Maybe there is a need for mental health advocacy then.
