That was a very good SWANS period. I even liked The Burning World, the one Michael Gira supposedly hates because he had to compromise with producer Bill Laswell on it. Nice choice. Also: Saw Skinny Puppy's "final tour" stop in Boston this week: phenomenal show! "Worlock," "Smothered Hope," "Assimilate," "The Choke," they did them all, and the theatrics were top notch. Hail to Ogre, Cevin Key and the boys! Canada's greatest band, in my opinion.
I remember Gira not liking White Light from the Mouth of Infinity, and saying that he hadn’t learned how to write a song yet. Which surprised me because I thinks it’s incredible and nailed the post rock sound a decade early.
Gira actually liking something would be news! I don't pay too much attention to his ripping of his own work: he's a perfectionist and is seldom completely happy with how his records turn out.

Oh man, I loved The Name of the Rose. One of my favourite half-remembered quotes:
Adso - "But it would be atrocious to kill a man in order to say 'blitiri'!"
William - "It would be atrocious to kill a man even to say 'Credo in unum deum'."
Freddie's on fire lately, even in these digests. Enjoying it all immensely
