If you're looking for future book club suggestions, let me suggest The End of Bias by Jessica Nordell. Full disclosure, Jessica is a good friend of mine. The book addresses topics that I think are appropriate for this community.
Just to want to add my voice to recommending Kang. There are very few people in media who manage to be critical of partisan narratives without becoming full blown anti-partisans, and he’s one of them.
Amen to your first paragraph. Today is as good a day as any other to make a change, and that makes me supportive of resolutions, not cynical about them. Good luck to everyone trying to make a change today and every other day!
Was thinking of other Iraq War books, Bamford’s “A Pretext for War” seems to have mixed reviews and I haven’t re-read it lately, but perhaps the most significant point is that it was published in 2004. In case anyone isn’t clear that it was immediately knowable and known just how badly US intelligence was misused and how spurious the pretext was. And Bamford was well-informed.
In your defense this is a terrible year to make picks. I can't remember as random and gonzo a year as this. I don't know if there's any actual good teams and even the genuinely bad teams throw some curveballs.
Minor disaster strikes - getting hold of a copy of No One Will Miss Her was _much_ harder than I expected it to be. It's not officially published here till the start of February! Even the (*big sigh*) ebook version at the library seems to be embargoed till then.
Hoping for a quick delivery from US-flavor Amazon...

I appreciate this lil haven on the internet. Great ideas, great debate, good fun.

Just wanted to encourage everyone to join in for book club. I really enjoyed “No One Will Miss Her” and I think lots of people here will like it too.
Villainous is the most fun I've had playing board games in a while. Probably because it's the only one I can occasionally beat my wife at.
Default Friend interview was excellent
