Beloved, Chapters Twelve Through Seventeen

I’m constantly going back and forth about how I feel towards Beloved, at this point. The craft is always there on a sentence-by-sentence level, but I can’t decide how I feel about the novel’s themes of memory and repression, in part because it often dramatizes those themes intelligently but then turns around and just tells the reader what tho…
